Minimum System Requirements for Tobii Pro Software

The system requirements mentioned on this page provide a baseline for a suitable computer to begin using Tobii Pro software.

Tobii Pro Lab and Tobii Pro Studio have been designed for research purposes. Therefore, you need to exercise tight control over your operating system and hardware to ensure good performance during stimulus presentation and recording. You can additionally secure the performance by making sure the computer is dedicated to eye tracking and running our software, and it is free from all third party applications.

Tobii Pro Lab and Tobii Pro Studio routinely perform very demanding calculations, so execution of some operations may take a lot of time, for example, calculating metrics for large projects, encoding exported videos, and running Automatic Mapping. Performance is also affected by variables such as how big your project is, how many stimuli you are using, the type of stimuli used, and the number of recordings already saved in the project.

Specific requirements for Tobii Pro Lab VR 360

  • When you make VR 360 recordings, you need a VR-ready computer. The minimum required graphics card for Tobii Pro Lab VR 360 is Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 (or better). A HDMI port connector for the HMD is also required.
  • Note: Nvidia Geforce graphics cards tend to face more technical issues compared to Nvidia Quadro graphics cards when using Tobii Pro Lab and Studio.

Additional requirements

  • Tobii Pro Lab, Tobii Pro Studio, and Tobii Pro Eye Tracker Manager require a laptop or desktop computer; tablets are not supported.
  • Tobii Pro software requires full administrator rights and does not support roaming profiles.
  • If you have a multiple-screen setup, always use "extend screen", never "duplicate screen".
  • It is highly recommended to set the Windows power plan to High/Best Performance.
  • You can avoid negative timing effects and interference from other machines in the same network by using a direct connection between your computer and the Tobii Pro eye tracker. We do not recommend using extension cables, USB hubs, adapters, etc.
  • The FAQ section of the Tobii Pro customer portal provides details on supported codec packs for Tobii Pro Lab and Tobii Pro Studio.
  • If you have dual screen setups with the T60XL, use a wide screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution.
  • If timing is a critical factor in your experiment, check the Timing Guide for Stimulus Display in Tobii Pro Lab and Timing Guide for Tobii eye trackers and Tobii Pro Studio.
  • If you run experiments that utilize other biometric measures in conjunction with eye tracking, check the system requirements of any attached third-party equipment.
