Connecting Tobii Pro Glasses 2 to Glasses Controller on your computer

Tobii Pro Glasses 2

Learn how to connect your Tobii Pro Glasses 2 to the Pro Glasses Controller software on your computer.

Tobii Pro Glasses Controller is the software used for controlling most features of the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 eye tracker, such as recording, calibrating, and live view. For Tobii Pro Glasses Controller to be able to communicate with Tobii Pro Glasses 2, the recording unit and the computer running Tobii Pro Glasses Controller must be connected to each other; in the same way, a computer would connect to the Internet. The connection can either be established via WLAN or with an Ethernet cable.

For simplicity, we use the term ‘computer’ to represent all devices on which the software may be run. The Tobii Pro Glasses Controller software may be installed on any tablet, laptop, or desktop computer fulfilling the system requirements (outlined in the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 user manual).

To connect the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 to Tobii Pro Glasses Controller via WLAN:

  1. Connect the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 recording unit to the head unit.
  2. Turn on the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 recording unit.
  3. Turn on your computer which has Tobii Pro Glasses Controller installed.
  4. Click on the WLAN network icon at the bottom right of your screen.
    • If you instead see the network icon, it means the computer is already connected to a network via cable. You can still connect to the Tobii Pro Glasses 2 via WLAN by clicking on the Network icon.
  5. A list of available WLAN networks will appear. It may take up to two minutes before a newly started recording unit appears in the list of available networks.
    • If no WLAN networks appear, check that your wireless adapter is activated in the Windows Device Manager. Open the Windows Start menu, search for Device Manager and press Enter. Go to Network adapters, find your wireless network adapter in the list, right click on it and select Enable.
  6. Click on the WLAN network that has the same name as the serial number of your recording unit (TG02B-XXX...). You will find the serial number on the sticker at the back of the recording unit.
  7. Select the Connect automatically check box to always connect automatically to the recording unit.
  8. Click Connect.
  9. Enter the WLAN password TobiiGlasses into the network security key field and click Next. It may take up to two minutes before Tobii Pro Glasses Controller establishes a connection to the recording unit.
    • This step is only necessary the first time you connect your Tobii Pro Glasses 2 to your computer.
  10. The Tobii Pro Glasses Controller Dashboard will display Ready whenever there is a connection between the software and the recording unit. You are now ready to perform a recording with the Tobii Pro Glasses 2.

Note: The connection will be lost when the distance between the computer and the recording unit is too big. When there is no connection between the Tobii Pro Glasses Controller and the recording unit, the Dashboard will display Disconnected. If this occurs the recording will still continue, however, to stop or pause the recording you must wait for the recording unit to be back in reach to reconnect to the computer running Tobii Pro Glasses Controller. If the recording unit does not reconnect automatically, repeat steps 4-8.

Note: WLAN signal quality is affected by different environmental factors such as the distance between the recording unit and the computer, the presence of walls, windows, furniture, and other objects, as well as the presence of other wireless devices and networks in the same area, such as smartphones. A weak or low-quality WLAN signal will decrease the quality of, or interrupt the Live Viewing video in Controller, or even disconnect the recording unit from the computer.

    • Network settings on the computer must be set to Obtain an IP address automatically for the connection to work correctly.
  6. The Tobii Pro Glasses Controller Dashboard will display Ready whenever there is a connection between the software and the recording unit. You are now ready to perform a recording with the Tobii Pro Glasses 2.
