Setting up and installing the Tobii Pro TX300 eye tracker

Learn how to set up and install the Tobii Pro TX300 eye tracker.

The Tobii Pro TX300 eye tracker is an eye tracker that can be used in two different scenarios, either together with the screen supplied with the eye tracker (T-mode) or standalone together with any other montors, projections, TVs, in simulators or with real-world interfaces (X-mode).

Please refer to the User's Manual or the Assembly Instructions for more detailed information on how to install, setup and use the Pro TX300.

To assemble the Pro TX300 as a standalone eye tracker without using the supplied screen (X-mode):

  1. Install the software you intent to use for data collection, such as Tobii Pro Studio, on your computer.
  2. Assemble the stand and the eye tracking unit. Place the eye tracking unit upside down on a table or other flat surface. Align the holes in the eye tracker with the screws attached to the stand. Fasten the screws. If needed, tighten the screws using the supplied Allen wrench.
  3. Assemble the foot and the stand. Place the foot on the stand. Align and fasten the screws attached to the foot to the holes in the stand. Tighten the screws using the supplied Allen wrench. The eye tracker is now ready to be used in X-mode.
  4. Connect the Power cable and the Ethernet cable to the connectors on the back. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the computer you intend to use for data collection.
  5. Turn on the eye tracker by pressing the system ON/OFF button on the back. When the eye tracker is on, a blue light will light up on the eye tracking unit’s system ON/OFF button.
  6. Verify that your computer and the software you intend to use can connect to the eye tracker.
  7. Adjust your physical setup; if you intend to use a monitor, TV, projection screen or similar add these to the setup and place the eye tracker in an appropriate location.
  8. Open the Tobii X Configuration Tool via Tobii Pro Studio or the Tobii Eye Tracker Browser. 
  9. Measure all required physical parameters for your setup and enter the values in the the Tobii X Configuration Tool and Save the change to the eye tracker. Read more about how to use the X configuration tool.
  10. The eye tracker is now ready to be used for data collection.

To assemble the Pro TX300 eye tracker with the supplied screen (T-mode):

  1. Install the software you intent to use for data collection, such as Tobii Pro Studio, on your computer.
  2. Assemble the stand and the eye tracking unit. Place the eye tracking unit upside down on a table or other flat surface. Align the holes in the eye tracker with the screws attached to the stand. Fasten the screws. If needed, tighten the screws using the supplied Allen wrench.
  3. Assemble the foot and the stand. Place the foot on the stand. Align and fasten the screws attached to the foot to the holes in the stand. Tighten the screws using the supplied Allen wrench. 
  4. Remove the top cover plate and the

     screws holding it in place. Place the top plate in the flight case.
  5. Place the eye tracking unit on a flat surface. Angle it slighly backwards.
  6. Attach the screen unit to the eye tracker unit. Slide on the screen unit so the front of the screen unit hooks into the holes at the top front of the eye tracking unit. Place the screen so the holes in the screen unit align with the holes in the eye tracking unit. Hold on to the screen unit until the screws are fastened enough to ensure the screen unit cannot fall off. Ideally, attaching the screen unit is done by two persons.
  7. Fasten the black screws supplied with the eye tracker in the holes

    while you hold on to the screen unit. Once all screws have been fastened, 

    use the supplied Allen wrench to tighten the screws. The eye tracker is now assembled and can be used in T-mode.

  8. Connect the power cable and the Ethernet cable to the connectors on the back of the eye tracking unit. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the computer you intend to use for data collection.
  9. Connect the power cable and the DVI cable to the screen unit. Connect the other end of the DVI cable to the computer you intend to use for data collection.
  10. Turn on the eye tracker by pressing the system ON/OFF button on the back. When the eye tracker is on, a blue light will light up on the eye tracking unit’s system ON/OFF button.
  11. Turn on the screen unit by pressing the power button on the left hand side of the screen.
  12. Press the source button on the left hand side of the screen to choose DVI as input source.
  13. Verify that your computer and the software you intend to use can connect to the eye tracker and that the computer desktop is visible on the TX300 screen.
  14. Open the Tobii X Configuration Tool via Tobii Pro Studio or the Tobii Eye Tracker Browser. 
  15. In the X Configuration Tool, tick 

    the T setup option and save the selection to the eye tracker. Note: No further measurements are needed 

    when using an Integrated screen setup.

  16. The eye tracker is now ready to be used for data collection.
